One day John had been meditating and trying to regress on his own, by following the suggestions in the book.  He found he could see images, but they were jumbled. He could not make any sense out of them, so he asked me if I could hypnotize him and regress him into a past life.  I felt excited with the prospect of trying.

So, we started to prepare ourselves for our first regression by dimming the light in the bedroom and drawing the curtains.  John lay on the bed surrounded with pillows and covered with a thick comforter, he was breathing deeply and concentrating on relaxing his every muscle. I sat on the bed next to him.  Speaking in a low tranquil voice saying: "Relax. Relax you now feel yourself going deeper and deeper into a hypnotic state." John responded well to my suggestions.  I had absolutely no training in hypnosis, but I followed all the things I had read in the book.

"I want you to relax... Relax... You're going deeper and deeper into a hypnotic state... You are feeling very relaxed... You are now imagining yourself walking through a tunnel... I will count to`five' and when I reach the number ‘five' you will be at the end of the tunnel and you will find yourself in another life... One... You are moving into the tunnel... You see a light at the end of the tunnel... You move toward the light... Two... You are moving closer and closer to the light... Three... Closer and closer to the light, you are half-way there... Four...  You are very close to the light now. You're almost there...  Five...  You are there, now you go out of the tunnel and you will find that you are in another life..."

Lianne:           Tell me what you feel.  Tell me what you see.

John:               It's dark, very dark. (I thought of course it's dark he probably can't see anything.)

Lianne:           Why is it dark?"

John:              It's dark because, It’s night time and I’m hiding.

Lianne:           Why are you hiding?

John:              Because they must never know I am here.

Lianne:           Where are you hiding?

John:              I'm under a bridge, I'm waiting, they must never find me.

Lianne:           Who are they?

John:               My enemies, of course. (He said it with such anguish in his voice.) They kidnapped my wife, I must get her back.

Lianne:           Who are you?

John:               I'm a Norseman, I am king of my people, and I must get my queen back.

Lianne:           Why did they kidnap your wife?

John:               Because they are my enemies of course. (He said with impatience.)

Lianne:           Tell me, what will you do next?

John:               I will wait 'til daybreak and I will gather some men, then we will attack.

Lianne:           I want you to go forward in time to the attack. Tell me what happens... What do you see?

John:               There is a lot of blood, we are entering the fort, they haven't got a chance.  We surprised them. (John’s face became rigid with a severe expression.)

Lianne:           What happens after you entered the fort?   (His face contorted, he looks in pain, he says nothing.  I said with anticipation.)   What happened? Did you get hurt?

John:               No! She's dead... They killed her, they knew I was coming and they poisoned her.  (He yells.)

Lianne:           They killed who? (I said, a bit confused.)

John:              My wife.

Lianne:           Where is she?

John:              She is in my arms. She's gone now, she’s dead.  (He sobs.)

Lianne:           Who killed her?

John:              I don't know yet, but when I find them, I will slash their heads off.

Lianne:           I want you to go forward in time, do you find out who did this to your wife?

John:               Yes. I grabbed a guard and put my sword to his throat and asked him: "Who did this to my wife?" He told me that it was the prince who had done it, then he pleaded for his life.

Lianne:           What did you do then? (He paused and said in a hard voice.)

John:              I had no pity and I destroyed him.

Lianne:           What did you do to the prince?

John:              I killed him too. I cut off his head, he didn't even see me coming.

Lianne:           I want you to go forward in time a few years and tell me where you are?

John:              I am at my home.

Lianne:           Are you with someone or are you alone?

John:               I am with my son.

Lianne:           Oh! you have a son?

John:              Yes.

Lianne:           Did you remarry?

John:              No. (He says with aggravation.)

Lianne:           Have you never felt that you wanted female companionship?

John:               There are many women in this kingdom that come and serve me when I want my satisfaction, I have no need for another wife." (He replys coldly)

Lianne:           How old is your son?

John:               He is two years old, he has so much energy. He is now sitting on my throne playing, if he only knew the hardships that are involved in sitting on that throne. (He says as his face lights up with pride)

Lianne:           I want you to go forward in time. Tell me what is happening in your life?

John:               I am old now, it is my son who will be king, I have shown him all I know.  He is a great warrior he will be a great Norseman and a great king.

Lianne:           How old is your son?

John:               He is thirty.

Lianne:           I want you to go further in this life. What do you see?

John:              I see myself surrounded by water.

Lianne:           Are you dead?

John:              Yes. It is a Norseman's sea burial.

Lianne:           What have you learned in this lifetime?

John:              I learned hatred and violence.

I was so excited about the session that I didn't want to stop.  I wanted to bring John in to yet another life, through a crack in the drapes, I could see it was getting dark, but I continued:

Lianne:           I want you to go further ahead in time. To another lifetime.  What do you see?  What do you feel?

John:              I'm on a train.

Lianne:           Where are you going?

John:              I don't know. They are taking us somewhere.

Lianne:           Who is us?

John:              Me and my wife.

Lianne:           And who are they?

John:              The Nazis.

Lianne:           Oh!... Go forward in time and tell me where you are?

John:              I am in a field.

Lianne:           What are you doing in the field?

John:              I am digging.

Lianne:           Where is your wife?

John:              She is in another camp, I don't know if she is still alive.

Lianne:           How long has it been since you have seen her?

John:              Two years.

Lianne:           Go forward in time, tell me what is happening?

John:               They bring all of us into a big room.  I wonder what they want with us this time.

Lianne:           What happening now? (He starts to quiver.)

John:               They're spraying something on us. What are they doing? (His chest raises and he looks panicked)

John:               I can't breathe!  I can't breathe!

I knew what was happening, and I knew where he was, I also knew the outcome. I panicked. He was panting heavily and I didn't know what to do.  I got a grip on my emotions and, very forcefully said:

Lianne:           Calm down.  You feel no pain. You feel no pain.

His heaving chest calmed, as he resumed normal breathing.  This event made me realize, that without experience this hypnotizing could be dangerous.  I must use more caution with my probing instructions.

Lianne:           Take a deep breath and relax.  That's it... Relax.  Now I want you to cross to the other side after your death. Tell me what you see?

John:              So many people died, so many souls, it's such a shame.

Lianne:           What have you learned in this lifetime?

John:               How to be a business man. I've learned hatred.  I've learned bitterness, I've learned to be a victim of hatred.

I knew that I must end this hypnosis session now and let John rest. I brought John out at the count of five, John shook his head and stretched his legs.  He had been under for a long time and felt rather stiff. He remembered all that he said, but couldn't believe he actually said it.

"That was incredible! Were you making all that up?"  I queried, breaking the silence.

"No"

"What was it like? Tell me I want to know!"

"I saw pictures, and sometimes, you would ask a question, and a few seconds later, an answer would come to me."

"Was all that true? Do you really think it was your past life?"

"I don't know, I'm just getting used to the experience Lianne, I really don't know."

"Well if you were making it up, you sure have a good imagination."

"No, I don't think I was making it up."
